Physical Architecture
The physical architecture of the bursar system is divided into three main components: the end-user infrastructure, Miami University’s web services, and the data management component. Our model highlights a big picture of how those three components interact with each other, to make it possible for the bursar office to provide a seamless service to its users.
-
End-User infrastructure: represents the three main physical structures that are used by the Bursar office and its clients. These structures can be Desktop PCs, laptops, tablets, or mobile smartphones. In addition, a payment portal that interacts with the Tuition Management System is represented.
-
Miami University Web Services: represents the bridge between the back-end and the front-end(end-user portal). Miami University web services(as part of the Banner system) process all the data from the university administrators on one end and send responses back to them, on another. PNC Bank and Tuition Management System are external systems(not hosted within Miami University’s infrastructure) that interact with the end-user.
-
Data Management tier: represents servers within Miami University’s infrastructure, on which Banner data is hosted.
